Set in the 1930’s, a guru lives a harmonious life with his widowed daughter. One day her father has to leave for work and is gone for a few days. During this time the daughter falls is unable to resist the temptation of the flesh and falls in love with a man and gets intimate with him, thus getting pregnant. The man is however aloof and not ready to accept the responsibility of a child or be committed to her. She is thus forced to abort her child. When her father arrives, he is shocked at the turn of events and left with no choice considers her dead and performs the ‘Ghata-Shraddha’, where a immoral person is pronounced dead and forbidden from all worldly relations and communications.
The Brahmin society praises his decision but a few people revolt against it. The film is directed by ArunKaul and produced by NFDC/Doordarshan. The music is composed by Mohinderjit Singh and the screenplay is written by J P Dikshit and ArunKaul. The star cast includes Manohar Singh,Nana Patekar, RajashriSawant, Vijay Kashyap, K K Raina and Master Ashish Mishra.
