When Kusum Desai finally decides to settle down, she is beyond her marriageable age. She gets rejected several times by the groom’s parents as she is too old. However when her marriage is finally fixed with Bishan, he doesn’t show up on her wedding night, leaving her. This makes Kusum very frustrated and in despair she gives up on the hope of ever getting married. Her father’s friend however comes to her rescue and
asks his law-graduated son to marry Kusum and he agrees. They re-locate to Bombay and soon Kusum comes to know that he is in fact in love with another girl. Kusum then challenges all traditions and divorces him so he can marry the girl he loves. The film is directed by Esmayeel Shroff and produced by M S Gulati. The music is composed by Khayyam. The star cast includes Naseruddin Shah, Nazir Hasain, Paintal, Jalal Aga, Rakhee, Parveen Babi, Rehman, A K Hangal, Dina Pathak, Dinesh Hingoo and Krishan Dhawan.
