Dil Ek Mandir is a 1963 romantic drama film directed by C. V. Sridharm a remake of the Tamil Film Nenjil Or Aalayam of 1962. The film starring Rajendra Kumar, Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar and Mehmood. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan. The film was a major hit at the box office besides the music which was a hit.
Sita ( Meena Kumari ) and Ram ( Raaj Kumar) are husband and wife . Ram is diagnosed with cancer and is admitted to in a hospital, where he is treated by Dr. Dharmesh ( Rajendra Kumar). Dr. Dharmesh incidentally was the ex-lover of Sita and both are not comfortable being near each other in presence of Sita’s husband Ram. She even suspects Dr. Dharmesh may not treat her husband well and Dharmesh decides he would work hard and promises Sita he would do his best. Ram overhears the conversation between Sita and Dharmesh and advises her to marry the doctor after he passes away.
Ram undergoes a major surgery under Dr. Dharmesh and this surgery would decide the fate . However, the surgery is successful and Dr. Dharmesh comes out and tells Sita she is has nothing to worry and her husband is now safe. But owing to the stress and without proper food, sleep he works for the preparation for this surgery on Ram as he cannot fail in the eyes of Sita who would misunderstand him. He neglects his health due to which he collapses after the surgery and the long day. He dies on the spot. Ram starts recovering well after the successful surgery .
Ram and Sita are seen together inaugurating the hospital in the memory of Dr. Dharmesh which is being inaugurated by his mother.
He and Sita build a hospital and get Dharmesh’s mother to inaugurate the hospital built in the memory of Dr. Dharmesh.
