Shalu, played by Preity Zinta lives with her mother and sister Nimmi, played by Mahima Chaudhary. What Shalu and Nimmi don’t know is that they are half sisters. Shalu is the daughter of her mother’s late husband’s daughter with a woman he was having an affair with. After a fatal car accident he begs his wife to take care of Shalu. The mother is helpless and is not able to show the same love to Shalu as she does to Nimmi. Shalu constantly craves for her mother’s affection and feels bad when she doesn’t get it. Nimmi is however, protective of Shalu and loves her very much.
When a man called Dev, played by Arjun Rampal enters their lives, things turn for the worse. Shalu falls in love with him but later Nimmi seems to believe that he loves her. Their mother mistakes Nimmi being in love with Dev and takes her proposal for marriage to Dev’s family. Later when she learns about Shalu and Dev she accuses her of stealing Dev from her daughter Nimmi just like her mother stole her husband from her. Shalu decides to sacrifice her love for her sister. Later when some people try to take advantage of her illegitimate heritage, Shalu goes in public and tells everyone that she was born out of wedlock and her step mother was kind and generous to adopt her. Her mother is ashamed of how she has treated Shalu all these years and hugs her. Thus Shalu and Dev unite in the end.
The movie is directed by Kundan Shah and produced by Kumar Taurani and Ramesh Taurani. The music is composed by Nadeem-Shravan.
