Rahul, played by Shahrukh Khan is part of a dance troupe along with his best friend Nisha, played by Karisma Kapoor. The group has many other members and they all are good friends, who party together. Rahul wants to create his musical Maya soon and is preparing for it. They work hard and practice their dance routines everyday, when Nisha gets a foot injury. The doctor advices her rest and that she cannot dance for atleast 6 months. This news is upsetting to the dance troupe who now have to look for an alternative dancer. That is when Rahul discovers Pooja, played by Madhuri Dixit. He sees her dancing one day and asks her to join his troupe. She refuses him many times but finally agrees.
Rahul soon finds himself falling in love with Pooja. Her best friend is Ajay who is madly in love with her and one day proposes to her and she is unable to refuse him, seeing how happy it made him. Meanwhile Nisha is in love with Rahul but he takes her only as a friend. Soon Nisha comes to know that Rahul loves Pooja and Ajay realizes that Nisha loves Rahul and they unite with their respective partners. The movie is directed and produced by Yash Chopra. The music is composed by Uttam Singh and the lyrics are written by Anand Bakshi. The cinematography is by Sharmishta Roy and Manmohan Singh.
The star cast includes Murad Ali, Suresh Menon, Tanya Mukherjee, Balvinder Singh Suri, Rajesh Tandon, Hemlata Deepak, Aruna Irani, Farida Jalal, Shruti Ultaf, Priya Varma and Shivani Vazir.
