Don is a 1978 action-packed crime thriller film produced by Nariman Irani and directed by Chandra Barot with the story written by Salim-Javed. Starring in the film are Amitabh Bachchan (in double roles as Don and Vijay) along with Zeenat Aman, Iftekhar, Helen, Pran, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu and Pinchoo Kapoor.
Don (Amitabh Bachchan) is Bombay’s most wanted underworld criminal. The police have been unsuccessful in their attempts to nab him. However, in a police encounter, Don finally gets shot fatally and is declared dead. But with his death, they lose out all the information and the root of the criminal organization that he headed. To get to the roots of the evil and underworld crime scene the police find Don’s look-alike Vijay a slum dweller. Since he is a spitting image of Don, the police keep the death of the original Don under wraps and prepare Vijay to take over as the Don to reveal the secrets of the underworld. In the meantime, Roma (Zeenat Aman) is also a part of Don’s camp to take revenge on the original Don and her motive is a revenge to kill him for murdering her brother.
Amitabh Bacchan in the double role is more than convincing as the underworld Don and Vijay the slum dweller. The film is how Vijay unfolds each of the secrets of the underworld by being the informant to the police and helps to track down the root of the criminal organizations.
