Zeenat, played by Gul Panag lives in Himachal Pradesh and is married to Amir. He soon leaves for Saudi Arabia to work there. She later learns that an incident has caused her husband’s arrest and he will be sentenced to death unless she gets a forgiveness letter from the victim’s wife. Meera, played by Ayesha Takia lives in Rajasthan and married to Shankar, who has gone to the Saudi Arabia for work. He is Amir’s roommate. During an altercation, Amir accidentally kills Shankar and now the cops arrest him and he is to be excecuted unless a signed letter from Shankar’s wife granting forgiveness is received.
Meera is devastated at the news of Shankar’s death. His parents are furious and want justice. Zeenat somehow manages to travel to Rajasthan and locate Meera’s house. Seeing that she isn’t allowed out of the house or to meet anyone she tries to find another way to meet her. She learns that she goes to the temple everyday at a particular time and waits for her. She doesn’t disclose her identity and befriends her. They become close friends and Zeenat wins Meera’s trust. Soon the date of Amir’s execution comes close and Zeenat tells her the truth. Meera is horrified by Zeenat’s statement and refuses to sign the letter. Later Meera, who is always humiliated and treated like a servant by her in-laws is to be sold to a landlord by them. On learning this Meera breaks down and decides to help Zeenat and do a good deed.
She signs the letter and Zeenat gives her hand to Meera to reach out and come with her to her city. Both the friends leave Rajashthan for good. The movie is directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and produced by Elahe Hiptoola. The music is composed by Salim-Sulaiman.
