Dost is produced by Premji and directed by Dulal Guha. The film released in 1974 features a star cast with Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Asit Sen Rehman, and Amitabh Bachchan in a guest appearance.
Maanav an orphan has been raised by a Catholic Priest Father Francis. He relocated to Mumbai when he learns his mentor is dead. In Mumbai, a young man named Gopichand Sharma attempts to steal his luggage. Manav chases him and retrieves his lost luggage and in turn the two become friends. Gopichand narrates he is estranged from his wife Kalyani, a nurse and his son Munna who has turned into an alcoholic thief. Gopichand is involved with a crime kingpin but decides to change his ways and become an honest responsible human being to patch up with his wife which goes against his boss Monto sardar. Manav gets Gopichand a job with the Hercules Milk Food company and leaves. Manav falls in love with Kajal. Her father who owns the Hercules Milk Food Company is against their relationship and Manav decides to leave and settle Shimla. In a few months he learns that Gopichand has been arrested for marketing contaminated milk powder resulting in death of hundreds of children. Manav decides to come back to Bombay to resolve the case and get into the roots to find out why Gopichand had committed the crime. If not, he then who is the real culprit?
