Vijay, played by Ajay Devgn, runs a cable TV business in Goa and is a big fan of Hindi movies. He is known to help people of his area with inspiration from these movies. He lives with his wife Nandini, played by Shriya Saran and daughters Anju in 12th class and Anu in class 6th.
Anju goes to a college camp where a boy names Sam, video records her having a shower in the ladies room. He blackmails her for sexual favors or else he would forward the video to all his friends. A scared Anju tells mother Nandini who in turn begs Sam to delete the video but he wouldn’t budge. An infuriated Anju while trying to destroy the phone with the recording accidentally smashes a lead pipe on Sam’s head and he is killed. They later burn the body in a compost pit near their house.
Nandini tells the whole incident to Vijay who, now thinks of ways to mislead the police. He trains his family in all the answers to be given to the police. He dumps Sam’s car in a nearby lake. Sam was the son of IG of Goa Police, Meera, played by Tabu. She questions Vijay and his family individually but everyone’s answers match which proves his alibi. His younger daughter however, reveals that she saw a body being buried in a compost, but they find the carcass of a dog.
Meera later learns of the video recording through Sam’s friend. She asks forgiveness from Vijay who also confesses to the crime and apologizes. Nandini later learns that Sam’s body was buried under the new police station while still under construction. Drishyam is directed by Nishikant Kamat and produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Abhishek Pathak. The music is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
