Aparna, played by Nandita Das is married to Suresh, who works as a travelling salesman. She gets to see very little of Suresh as he is constantly working and this has caused some rift in their relationship. One day Aparna finds out that she is pregnant and goes for a checkup. After some initial blood tests, the Doctor asks Aparna to come to the clinic accompanied by her husband. Suresh however refuses to accompany her giving some excuse. On meeting the doctor Aparna is told that she is HIV positive and will have to abort the baby. Aparna’s world comes crashing down in a second.
Turns out Suresh had been sleeping around, having unprotected sex with other women and contracted AIDS, which he has passed on to Aparna. Disturbed and sad, Aparna divorces Suresh and joins a rehab center called Jivan Jyoti. She takes care of the children there. There she meets George, played by Rajit Kapur, a truck driver, who she gets attracted to. But because of her condition she is hostile to him. A prostiture Rita, played by Renuka Shahane, comes there along with her daughter. Sadly Rita dies and her daughter is now left in the care of Aparna. George leaves Jivan Jyot being shunned by Aparna, sells his truck and garage and gives the proceeds to Jivan Jyoti. The movie is directed by K.P Sasi and written by Mahesh Dattani. The music is composed by Ravi.
