Faraar which means absconding is a 1975 crime film produced by Alankar Chitra and directed by Shanker Mukherjee. The film starring Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Sulochna, Sajjan, Agha and Bhagwan Dada. The film is a remake of the Malayalam film by Priyadarshan.
The film is about a middle class man Rajesh (Amitabh Bachchan) who lives with his sister and falls in love with Sharmila Tagore whom he plans to marry once he finds a husband for his sister and marries her off. Unfortunately, one day his sister gets raped and murdered and the police are unable to find the culprit. Devastated Rajesh wants to now avenge the death of his beloved sister. He manages to find the murderer and kills him and thus he is now on the run from the police himself. Rajesh to save his skin from the police abducts a child as a hostage and seeks refuge in the house of a police inspector Sanjeev Kumar who happens to be the husband of his ex –lover Sharmila Tagore. Rajesh is now in a dilemma whether to hold the son of his lover as a hostage or release him and surrender to the law.
