“Finder: Project 1” is a Tamil thriller suspense film directed by Vinoth Rajendran, featuring Charlie and Sendrayan. The movie is about “Vinoth” (Vinoth Rajendran) and “Pallavi” (Dharani), two private detectives who deal with wrongful convictions. Their new case takes them back to the 2014 conviction of Peter (Charle), a fisherman who was accused of killing a local councillor. Peter's daughter, Ruby (Brana), insists he is innocent and requests that they assist her in clearing his name.
As Vinoth and Pallavi dig deeper, they learn astonishing facts regarding the case. Peter, being deep in debt, had secretly entered into an understanding with his cousin “Rayan” (Sendrayan) to pretend to confess as a confederate to the crime. But as the detectives compile new pieces of evidence and conflicting statements, they discover that the truth is a lot more wicked than it appears on the surface.
Although "Finder: Project 1" has a compelling concept, it falters in execution. The movie keeps revisiting the crime in various flashbacks, but the repetitive nature of the same slows down the pace. The high emotions, constant shouting, and heavy background music overpower chances of more character development and suspense. Certain plot elements, such as an unexplained real estate purchase, are introduced but not resolved, leaving some loose ends. Even with these shortcomings, the movie has some moments of suspense and a new take on wrongful convictions, and it is an acceptable watch for those who enjoy investigative thrillers.
