Tara Singh, played by Sunny Deol is a Sikh man and Sakina, played by Amisha Patel, is a Muslim girl during the partition days. They meet in college where Tara wants to be a singer. He practices a lot and impresses people with his singing voice. Soon there are riots where the Muslims attack the Sikhs and Tara’s twin sisters are put on the train and given a poison pouch to consume if they are attacked. However they get killed by the Muslims before they could eat it. Tara then spots Sakina and shields her from the attacks of a mob who are killing Muslims.
Sakina comes to live with Tara and they fall in love. They then get married and become parents to a baby boy named Jeet. One day Sakina sees a picture of her father who was presumed dead but is the mayor of Pakistan. She leaves to meet him but is not able to take Tara and Jeet. She meets her father who then tricks her into marrying a rich influential boy, but she refuses. They lock her in a room. Tara and Jeet try to enter Pakistan at the border. Soon the three are united and Sakina’s father accepts Tara as his son-in-law and they all return to India. The movie is directed by Anil Sharma and produced by Ravi Kumar Sitamari. The music is composed by Uttam Singh.
