Ganga Ki Saugandh is a 1978 film produced and directed by Sultan Ahmed . Starring in the film are Amitabh Bachchan , Rekha , Amjad Khan and Pran . I. S. Johar , Bindu and Anju Mahendru.
The film is set in a village where there is a tyrant Jaswant Singh (Amjad Khan ) who had made the life of the villagers miserable. Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Jeeva, a young and naïve man who becomes a dacoit to avenge the death of his mother.. Jeeva is in bad books of Jaswant Singh and the villagers also hold him responsible of killing a cow and he is thrown out of his village. Jeeva takes it on himself to wipe out Jaswant Singh’s tyranny in the village. He swears on the river Ganga and the name of the film is derived from this vow that he takes which brings him into a conflict and with the people of his village who send him on an exile.
