SSP Amit Kumar, played by Ajay Devgn is assigned the Tezpur district in Bihar, where the crime rate has multiples three fold and the Tezpur police in controlled by a notorious goon named Sadhu Yadav and his son Sunder Yadav. Amit is an honest and tough cop, who will not take non-sense and definitely not compromise on law and order. Bacha Yadav, played by Mukesh Tiwari is a mole working for Sadhu Yadav. One day Bacha sees a distressed local goon named Nunwa and fears that he might be reveal important information to the police and thus kills him.
Bacha then makes it look like an encounter to confuse the police but Amit finds something suspicious and asks Bacha to go off duty for a while. Bacha goes to Sadhu’s house for help but is shunned by him. This makes him upset and he vows revenge. When a girl goes missing, Bacha requests Amit to give him another chance to prove his loyalty and Amit agrees. He tricks Sundar and gets him to a secluded place where Amit is waiting with his team and gets arrested. Due to lack of evidence however, Sundar is released. Later Sunder vandalizes a shop where the owner had testified against him. Bacha Yadav later has a scuffle with him and pierces his eyes and pours acid in them called ‘Gangajal’ by the locals. There is an uproar over the incident
Amit is furious and asks his men for a written confession. Bacha Yadav confesses of his involvement. On reaching homw however, Bacha is killed by Sundar by being shot in the eyes. Amit takes immediate action and sends a warrant for Sundar. He is then arrested and given 10 day in custody. Sadhu, takes help from the home minister and asks to release his son. After being released Sunder barges in the wedding of a girl he had kidnapped earlier and kills her mother. The girl is shocked and kills herself in front of Amit. He then arrest both Sunder and Sadhu. On the way they try to escape but die in a horrific accident where their eyes are pierced.
The movie is written directed and produced by Prakash Jha. The music is composed by Sandesh Shandilya. The story is by Mahendra Lalka.
