After the end of Colonial India, Wasseypur was part of Bengal was later redistricted to Bihar and again to Jharkhand where it now belongs. During that time, a Pathan named Shahid Khan was looting British trains impersonating the name and characteristics of the notorious dacoit Sultana Qureshi. The matter quickly reaches the ears of the Qureshi family and they disown Khan and his family from Wasseypur and he settles in Dhanbad. There Khan starts working for Ramdhir in his coalmine as a laborer.
Shahid’s pregnant wife, goes into labor while he’s at work and his repeated pleas for leave are denied, resulting in his wife’s death. His son however survives. Infuriated and saddened by his wife’s demise Shahid kills the man who denied him leave. He decides to take over the coal mine after Singh appoints him the new henchman. Singh however overhears his big ambitions and sends him to Varanasi on the pretext of work but orders him to be brutally murdered. His son, Sardar however escapes and is now raised by Khan’s cousin Nasir.
Sardar vows revenge for his father’s death as he grows up. Sardar grows up to be the most feared goon in Wasseypur spreading violence and now steals iron ore. Eventually Sardar gets killed by Qureshi’s henchmen who shoot several bullets all over his body. The movie is directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Sunil Bohra, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Anurag Kashyap. The music is composed by Sneha Khanwalkar and G. V Prakash kumar.
