Vidya falls for the charms of Shiva, who she sees as dashing, daring and courageous. She tells her father about her love and they both get engaged. Meanwhile Shiva’s father Purshottam is a police inspector and wants his son to follow in his footsteps. Purshottam arrests a MLA’s son for misbehavior and in return he is transferred to the dreaded Kala Chowki. He later learns that the inspector of that place is severely beaten by a don named Billa. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, news comes that Shiva has turned into a criminal and is taking haftas and beating up people.
Shiva beats up Billa black and blue and is later arrested. His father is furious at this behavior of his son and beats him up severely in the lock up before he is taken out on bail by a prostitute named Shanti. Purushottam now informs the police that his son isn’t fit to be a cop.
The film is directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Priyadarshan. The music is composed by R D Burman and the story is written by A K Lohitadas. The screenplay is written by Priyadarshini. The star cast includes Jackie Shroff, Dimple Kapadia, Suresh Oberoi,Farida Jalal,Asrani,Tej Sapru,Annu Kapoor,Mukesh Rishi,Aishwarya,Siddharth Ray,Anant Mahadevan,Shammi Kapoor,Raj Babbar, Rakesh Bedi and Darshan Bagga.
