Sanjay Singhania, played by Aamir Khan is a wealthy businessman. He happens to meet a girl called Kalpana, played by Asin, by accident when she falsely claims to have an affair with the tycoon. Sanjay, on meeting her the very first time falls in love with her but hides his identity as being a struggling model like her. He proposes to her and after a brief thought she accepts. Meanwhile Kalpana helps rescue some orphan girls who are being targeted by the mafia don Ghajini. On learning this Ghajini attacks and kills Kalpana and injures Sanjay when he tries to save her.
Ghajini damages Sanjay’s brain so badly that he is suffers from short term memory loss due to the injury to his head. Thus to remember people, he keeps photographs of them with their identity written on them. A medical student who is researching on Sanjay, meets him and sees Ghajini’s picture with him who he says he wants to kill. Unknowing the whole truth she meets Ghajini, who she has no idea is a goon, and tells him about Sanjay wanting to kill him. Ghajini tries hard to find out who this person is and eventually realizes it is the same man he thought he had killed with his girlfriend Kalpana. He attacks him once again but this time Sanjay is well prepared to take his revenge and kills Ghajini.
The movie is directed by A.R Murugadoss and produced by Allu Aravind, Tagore Madhu and Madhu Mantena. The music is composed by A.R Rahman.
