Ethan Mascarenhas, played by Hrithik Roshan is a former magician who has been a quadriplegic for the last 14 years due to a horrific accident that damaged his spine. He is now a RJ on a local radio station called Radio Zindagi, where people cannot get enough of his wit, charm and positivity. Listeners however have no idea that Ethan is bed ridden and paralyzed. His nurse Sofia, played by Aishwarya Rai has been taking care of him for the last 12 years. Unable to bear the pain and agony of living a miserable and immobile life, Ethan files an appeal in court for his mercy killing. His mother, lawyer friend and doctor support his appeal.
Meanwhile, Omar, played by Aditya Roy Kapoor who is a huge fan of Ethan’s magic comes to learn magic from him and he agrees to pass on his legacy to him. Omar later tells him that he is the son of Yassar, who caused his horrific accident, but that doesn’t deter Ethan as he already knew the truth long back. Sofia takes a divorce from her abusive husband and decides to stay with Ethan when his appeal for Euthanasia is rejected and vows to help him. He realizes how much they both love eachother and Ethan proposes to Sofia and they get married. He later throws a farewell party for all his friends and family bidding them goodbye.
