Harpreet Kaur/Happy, played by Diana Penty has a groom chosen for her by her family who she is supposed to get married to. The groom is Bagga, played by Jimmy Shergill who is a businessman in Amritsar. But she wants to get married to her boyfriend Guddu, played by Ali Fazal who is an aspiring musician. They elope but Happy ends up in a lorry en route to Pakistan and gets stuck in a fruit basket, which is delivered to Bilal, played by Abhay Deol.
Happy somehow escapes and creates a commotion at a market where officer Afridi, played by Piyush Mishra, arrests her. Bilal soon learns of the arrest and decides to deport her but Happy is not willing to leave and makes up a contorted story to being kidnapped by Bilal and his family. All this makes Bilal’s fiancée Zoya, played by Momal Sheikh, suspicious of him having an affair with Happy.
Meanwhile Bagga kidnaps Guddu. Bilal’s father comes to know the truth and travels to India to rescue Guddu and bring him to Lahore to get him and happy married. They both tie the knot and so does Zoya and Bilal. Happy Bhaag Jayegi is directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Aanand L Rai and Krishika Lulla. The music is composed by Sohail Sen.
