Angar Chand, played by Amrish Puri is feuding with the Laxmi Devi’s family due to a broken engagement between both families and thus decides never to let a woman step inside in property. He also tells his four sons Balram, played by Jackie Shroff, Kishan, played by Paresh Rawal, Shakti, played by Arbaaz Khan and Jai, played by Akshaye Khanna to never get married. Laxmi’s granddaughter Anjali, played by Kareena Kapoor goes to the same college as Jai. Laxmi asks Anjali to seduce Jai into falling in love with her and later breaking his heart and Jai plays along pretending to be in love with her.
After a while Jai and Anjali learn of each others sinister plans and part ways only to realize that they have really fallen in love with each other. Now they have to convince their respective warring families. Jai decides to make his three brothers get married somehow. His friend Lucky, played by Arshad Warsi comes to know that Jai’s brother Kishan is already married and has two children secretly. Angar comes to know and kicks out Kishan and Jai for supporting him.
Laxmi arranges Anjali’s wedding to a lawyer, but on the wedding day Jai dresses up as the bridegroom and sneaks in with Kishan, his wife and Lucky. Finally the families agree to their love and let them marry. The movie is directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Ratan and Ganesh Jain. The screenplay and story is by Neeraj Vora, Siddiqui and Lal. The music is by Vidyasagar and Surinder Sodhi.
