Afia, played by Nandita Das, works as a web designer. Her husband Manav, played by Manav Kaul cheats on her and now she wants to have a test tube baby, using a sperm donor. She takes advice from Dr. Basu and meets a donor named Suraj, played by Purab Kohli and talks to him about his background. Finally she takes the plunge of having a baby with Suraj’s sperm. Megha, played by Juhi Chawla is a Kashmiri Pandit and has left Kashmir 20 years ago. She finds her Muslim friend Rubina, played by Manisha Koirala, who has suffered a lot too. She is inspired by Abhimanyu’s real life experiences.
Abhimanyu, played by Sanjay Suri, is a top movie director. He was sexually abused as a child. The scars of the past have still not left him and the memories come haunting back to him, where he struggles to find his sexual identity in society. Jai, played by Rahul Bose, happens to meet struggling actor Omar, played by Arjun Mathur in Mumbai and they both get attracted to each other. They have sex at a public place when a police man catches them and blackmails Jai to pay Rs. 100,000 as bribe. When Omar goes with Jai’s ATM to withdraw money, Jai is raped by the cop and later he arrests Omar. When he comes to the police station to release him, Omar isn’t there. Jai realizes that he was set up to extort money.
The movie is directed by Onir and produced by Sanjay Suri, Onir and Rajesh Kumar Jain. The music is composed by Amit Trivedi, Vivek Phillip and Rajiv Bhalla. The cinematography is by Arvind Kannabiran.
