Ittefaq is a suspense thriller film produced in 1969 by B.R, Chopra and directed by Yash Chopra. Starring Rajesh Khanna, Nanda in the lead roles with Madan Puri and Iftekar, Bindu playing the supporting roles. A film which was a remake of the 1965 American film, Signpost to Murder.
Dilip Roy (Rajesh Khanna) is an artist and does paintings. He was married to a beautiful rich lady by the name of Sushma. Sushma’s sister Renu(Bindu) also lives with the couple. On their wedding anniversary he is finishing his painting and a neglected wife Sushma pulls out the brush from his hand and damages the painting as she feels he is too engrossed only in his art and neglects her. Furious Dilip who is passionate about his paintings holds her by the neck and pushes her away. He walks away in the fit of anger. On his return he finds his wife dead and he is taken as the prime suspect and is arrested and sent for psychological analysis. He escapes and takes shelter in Rekha(Nanda)’s home on a stormy night and witnesses another murder. Her husband is killed and again Dilip Roy is the prime suspect since he was at the site of the murder. Karwe (Iftekar) the police inspector gets to the root of the case and finds the real culprit who is none other than Sushma’s sister Renu who is the real killer and Dilip Roy is cleared of all the charges against him.
