Sandhya is a graceful dancer living in a village with her parents. She belongs to the Brahmin community and happens to fall in love with a dalit boy named Hari. When she goes to visit her grandfather at a temple he gets Sandhya married to a another pundit just like him named Nandu. Hari realizes the caste difference between him and Sandhya and urges her to accept her grandfather’s choice. She gets married to Nandu as a
result but on the wedding night, Nandu enters the room to find a devi sitting instead of Sandhya and he moves away from her. This repeats for several nights and she then confronts him. Nandu explains to Sandhya that the reason he can see a devi is because she has taken the eight phera in the marriage of another man who she is in love with and must only be with him. Nandu then explains this to his grandfather as well and he finally accepts Sandhya and Hari’s love. The rest of the village is however against a Harijan boy marrying a Brahmin girl and fights break out where the two young lovers end up losong their lives. The film is directed by K Vishwanath and produced by Raakesh Roshan. The music is composed by Rajesh Roshan. The star cast includes Rakesh Roshan, Mithun Chakraborty, Sridevi, Devan Verma and Sujit Kumar.
