Akira, played by Anushka Sharma, works as a filmmaker for Discovery Channel. She comes to Ladakh to make a film and is rescued from drowning in a river by Samar, played by Shahrukh Khan, a Major in the Indian army. She later finds his diary in his jacket, that he lends her and begins to read it. She learns from the diary that Samar was working in London as a street musician and working part time as a waiter to make ends meet.
Samar meets Meera, played by Katrina Kaif at her engagement party and the two become close, eventually falling in love. Meera tells her father, played by Anupam Kher about her relationship with Samar and breaks her previous engagement. Later, Samar has a serious motorbike accident and Meera prays to God to save his life and in return she will never see him again. He recovers and she tells him of her vow. Heartbroken Samar leaves London and becomes a bomb disposal expert in India.
Akira finishes reading the diary and decides to make a documentary on the bomb-disposal squad and asks Samar to join her to publicize the film in London, he reluctantly agrees.
Unfortunately in London he has a horrific bus accident and suffers retrograde amnesia and remembers things only before his first accident. Akira asks Meera to help in his recover and she lies about being his wife when Samar gets his memory back he is furious at Meera’s lying and leaves for Kashmir. Realising her mistake Meera goes to Kashmir and they re-unite.
The film is directed by Yash Chopra and written and produced by Aditya Chopra. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman.
