Thakur Sher Singh is a cruel and conniving man who has been terrorizing the village people for years. He offers loans to poor impoverished farmers and then tortures them till they repay him. Meanwhile the village Mukhiya Hardayal’s wife gives birth to their second son Karamveer, but sadly passes away during childbirth complications. Hardayal begins to blame Karamveer for her death and gives all his love and affection to elder son Suraj. Sher Singh takes this to his advantage and offers a loan to Suraj to study in the city. Hardayal accepts but soon the torture begins. As he is unable to replay the money, Sher Singh makes Hardayal his bonded labor. Years of abuse, torture and beatings makes his spine weak.
When Suraj returns from the city after a few year he is shocked at his father’s plight. Sher Singh however offers some more money for him to study abroad. Hardayal helplessly accepts it and hopes one day his son will return to pay off the debt and rescue them. Little does he know that Suraj is involved in illegal activities like Drug smuggling and might never return.
The film is directed and produced by Rakesh Sethi. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Sanjay Dutt,Jackie Shroff, Farha,Sonam, Amrish Puri,Anupam Kher, Rubina and Beena.
