The zamindar rules over the village and his step-son Niranjan is the biological son of his second wife Sunanda while his own son Govind is drug induced and is mentally unstable. One day a village girl named Gauri opposes the injustice done to the villagers. When Zamindar hears of this he is furious and goes to talk to her. That is when he begins to admire her bravery and charm and asks her father her hand in marriage for his son Niranjan. Sunanda is however disgusted by the idea of marrying off her son to a poor village belle and suggests that she should marry Govind. Gauri accepts Govind as her husband and marries him. Soon she finds out that Govind and her status in the house is as good as negligible. Sunanda, Niranjan and the help Chintamani seem to be controlling the entire household. Meanwhile Niranjan falls for the wrong girl named Mallika, who is after his wealth. Gauri has to now put things in perspective and save the family from disaster. The film is directed and produced by Pramod Chakravorty. The music is composed by Bappi Lahiri. The star cast includes Ashok Kumar, Jeetendra, Hema Malini,
Shashikala, Vijayendra Ghatge, Devan Verma, Om Shivpuri, Ajit, Padma Khanna, Sulochana and Aruna Irani.
