Vidya Sinha, played by Vidya Balan comes home to find her handicapped daughter Minnie missing and gets a ransom call from a stranger who demands money and asks her to come to a certain location. While on her way Vidya meets with an accident and is admitted to a small nursing home where she goes into a coma. Inspector Inderjeet, played by Arjun Rampal is handling Vidya’s case and finds a diary on going to her house.
He reads that her real name is Durga Rani Singh and she used to work as a clerk in a school in West Bengal. There she met a very quiet and disturbed child Minnie. All efforts to befriend the child go futile until one day she decides to visit Minnie’s house to find out more. There she encounters her uncle Mohit, played by Jugal Hansraj, who is sexually abusing her and reports it to the police. However, police find no evidence against Mohit and leave the case.
Minnie is traumatized on hearing this and jumps from her high apartment balcony and is paralyzed from the waist down. Durga collects her and leaves for Chandan Nagar for good by changing her name to Vidya.
Now in the present scenario, Durga is in the nursing home after her accident and comes into consciousness and a corrupt lady police tells her that Minnie is kidnapped by Mohit. With the help of inspector Inderjeet she is able to get Minnie back. The movie later shows that Inderjeet was actually Durga’s estranged husband who she married at a tender age but separated due to their differences. Durga later leaves for the US for Minnie’s treatment while Inderjeet moves on with his life.
