Bhishamchand and Ramchand are brothers who run a successful business together. Ramchand one day passes away due to an illness and his bachelor brother Bhishamchand looks after his two sons Khubchand and Puranchand. The former has two sons Dhanraj and Sandeepraj while Puranchand who passes away a few years ago has three sons Balraj, Dharamraj and Bharatraj. Meanwhile Karan is an adopted son of Bhishamchand. The families years later begin to feud and things get complicated. In spite of Bhishamchand trying his best to settle the problems he has little success. Things get ugly when Dhanraj’e men accidentally murder Balraj’s young child while Bharatraj murders Karan. The film is directed by Shyam Benegal and produced by Shashi Kapoor. The music is composed by Vanraj Bhatia. The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Rekha, Anant Nag, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raj Babbar, Amrish Puri and Sushma Seth.
