Johnny, played by Shreyas Talpade is the son a farmer named David, played by Om Puri. He helps his ill father whenever he can and the rest of the time he buys lottery tickets in the hope of winning big. The biggest blunder in his life is ti fall in love with Maria, played by Madhurima, who is the daughter of a dreaded gangster Peter, played by Paresh Rawal. Peter has made up his mind that he will never let Johnny and Maria get married at any cost.
One day Johnny sees someone drowning in his well and gets him out and feeds him food. Turns out it is a man called Kallu, played by Nana Patekar. He beats up Peter’s goons who attack Johnny. Johnny then gets an idea of faking that Kallu is his lost brother Sam and introduces him to his entire family and friends. All truly believe that Kallu is really Sam. Later Johnny comes to know that Kallu is actually a criminal who has been jailed several times but his family are already convinced that he is Sam indeed and throw Johnny out of the house.
Johnny begins working in a church and finds any opportunity to kill Sam/Kallu but is not successful. Sam later burns the house and everyone thinks Johnny has done it. He later sees Sam and another man dig a hole and take out a stolen golden cross from church. The other man runs with it and also confesses that the crime Sam was jailed for is actually committed by him. Sam beats him to death and Johnny takes the cross back to church and ultimately gets married to Maria.
The movie is directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Percept Picture Company. The music is composed by Sajid-Wajid.
