Three friends decide to take a trip to one of the well-known ruins and explore it. They then spot a mother and her daughter living there. They are taken aback by their plight and the mother confesses that her daughter Jamini is awaiting the return of a distant cousin, with who she will soon marry. But the cousin hasn’t showed up in years. One of the friend’s Subhash feels sorry for the mother-daughter duo and pretends that he is the one they are awaiting. This brings some joy into their lives but Subhash finds himself getting attracted to Jamini all the while. Soon the friends leave but Jamini knows her fate has another story to tell. The film is directed by Mrinal Sen and produced by Jagdish Chowkhani. The music is composed by Bhaskar Chandavarkar. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapoor and Geeta Sen.
