Khushboo a 1975 romantic drama film produced by Prasan Kapoor under the banner of Tripathi Pictures and directed by Gulzar. Starring Jeetendra, Sharmila Tagore and Hema Malini in the lead role. Supporting star cast was Asrani.
The film is based on the Bengali novel Panditmashai by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay. A beautiful film.
Kusum (Hema Malini) and Brindavan (Jeetendra) are married as child marriage by their parents with a small ceremony in their village. However, Kusum’s father dies in a riot the the entire blame is upon Brindavan’s father (Om Shiv Puri) due to which Brindavan’s family rejects Kusum as their daughter-in-law. Kusum leaves the village with her brother Kunj (Asrani) and her mother and settles down in another village. Brindavan grows up to become a doctor and his father dies of old age. Brindavan marries to Lakhi (Sharmila Tagore) who was also a victim of a child marriage. Brindavan and Lakhi in their marriage have a son Charan ( Master Raju). Lakhi dies due to illness and he moves back to his own village with his son and starts his practice . Dr. Brindavan once visits a wealthy patient who happens to reside in the same village where Kusum is living . The two get close to each other though there are some misunderstanding between the couple and the families due to the old enemity but Kusum and Brindavan’s son charan get close to each other. Ultimately Brindavan’s family put behind their misunderstandings and accept her as the daughter-in-law.
