Catherine was born in India to British citizens living in India during 1930’s. She befriends a local Indian boy named Kishna, played by Vivek Oberoi. Catherine and Kishna become close friends and spend time together. Catherine’s father is infuriated on learning this and sends her to England. After India’s independence, Catherine comes back to India to meet Kisna. Both realize that they have fallen in love with each other but Kisna is already engaged to be married to Laxmi. She is then targeted by an angry mob who are against the British.

He takes her to the British High Commission, where she can be sent safely back to her country. They both bid each other an emotional goodbye. Years later Kishna has married Laxmi and fulfilled his duty towards his country. He wishes that his ashes be spread at Devprayag where he met Catherine and their love blossomed.
