Lipstick is directed and written by Alankrita Shrivastava, produced by Prakash Jha. Music is by Zebunnisa Bangash, Cinematography by Akshay Singh.
This is a black comedy film released on the 21st of July 2017.
The leading stars are Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkana Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumraa, Plabita Borthakor along with Vikram Massey, Sushant Singh, Sonal Jha, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Jagat Singh Solanki in supporting roles.
The story is narrated from a novel by Usha Parmar (Ratna Pathak Shah) who is 55 years and fantasises that she is in love with a younger boy and changes herself to fulfil her secret fantasies. The other women like Rehan Abidi (Plabita Borthakor), Leela (Aahana Kumraa), Shireen Aslam (Konkana Sen Sharma) all living in the same vicinity also wanting their freedom in different ways, take bold steps that brings to you a colourful drama, but in the end Usha Parmar is thrown out with her belongings as they feel she has influenced them and spoilt her reputation by falling in love. The girls come to her rescue, light a cigarette telling the audience that want to shake off the burkha the are wearing and come in contact with the society apart from the conflicted lives they live in actual.
The film was a super hit movie at the Box Office and had a few nominations for the Filmfare Awards despite that it ran into trouble with the censor board for a bold topic, the mention of the burkha and had generated a lot of noise before its release.
