The story of the film revolves around the Indian soldires who have gone to Kargil to fight the enemies. They are being remembered by their family members. The soldiers include Vikram Batra, played by Abhishek Bachchan, who is brave and won the Param Veer Chakra. Manoj Pandey, played by Ajay Devgn, who also won the Param Veer Chakra for his bravery. Lt. Balwant Singh, played by Akshaye Khanna, is awarded the Mahaveer Chakra. Major Deepak Rampal, played by Sanjay Kapoor is the backbone of the team, also won the Param Vir Chakra. Meanwhile Captain Anuj Nair, played by Saif Ali Khan, is a daredevil who gets martyred and is also awarded the Mahaveer Chakra.
The movie is directed and produced by J P Dutta. The music is composed by Anu Malik. The cinematography is by Kareem Khattri. The star cast includes Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji, Raveena Tandon and Esha Deol, Manoj Bajpai, Raj Babbar, Ashutosh Rana, Ayub Khan, Karan Nath, Puru Raj Kumar, Rohit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, Isha Koppikhar, Divya Dutta, Mahima Chaudhry, Maya Alagh, Namrata Shirodkar. The choreography is by Habiba Rehman.
