Savitri is a doting mother to her daughter Meenu and lives a lavish lifestyle with her wealthy husband. While giving birth to her second child a son Khetan, she dies of childbirth complications. Their father then is unable to handle business as well as the children and thus remarries Laxmi. She is a doting mother to her two step children but her brother advices her against it and thus Meenu and Khetan end up being abused and miss their mother. The two children are fed up of the injustice and run away. When their dad asks of their whereabouts, he is told they are dead.
Laxmi then gives birth to a girl named Chanda. Her brother meanwhile not only embezzles money and jewelry but also throws Laxmi and her husband out of the house. The family of three live in poor conditions and are looked after by a servant named Ramu. Chanda grows up and comes to know about Khetan through Ramu. It is then when the real truth will be out. The film is directed by Kalpataru and is produced by Shiv Kumar Jain and Mohanji Prasad. The music is composed by Anand Milind. The story is written by Keshav Rathod and the screenplay is by K B Pathak. The star cast includes Shashi Kapoor, Sachin, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Sharmila Tagore, Ashok Saraf, Kader Khan, Pran and Tanuja.
