Mera Mahi NRI (My Beloved Non-Resident Indian) is a genuine multi-cultural comedy drama that chronicles the life of a student 'freshie' in Birmingham, the UK's second largest city (a term used to describe somebody who is from the sub-continent who has recently arrived in the UK and who has very little experience of the British way of life). The film follows Sherry as he goes through the trials and tribulations of becoming an NRI (Non Resident Indian) in order to appease his girlfriend's mother, who believes that a lad from the United Kingdom is the only proper match for her daughter. The film also takes a witty sideways look at the misleading notion that the UK is still perceived as a rural-Indian country.
