Dinanath is a widower living a peaceful life with his sons Rajeev and Sanjeev, daughter Payal and sister Kalawanti. Rajeev has been well educated and Dinanath has expectations that he will do something good in his life. He however has no hopes for Sanjeev, who has achieved very little in life and works with Tahir Khan in his garage as a mechanic. He usually gets into scuffles with people and brings trouble. One day he
sets Premnath’s house on fire and nearly kills him. Dinanath is humiliated by his sons deeds and asks Premnath not to press charges. The latter agrees and lets him go. Meanwhile the family has had enough of Sanjeev’s erraticbehavior and ask him to leave the house. He re-locates and first starts working at a bakery and then as a taxi-driver. One day he is shocked to find that his passenger is non other than his own brother Rajeev. Turns out, both the brothers are now in love with the same woman named Archana. The film is directed by Ashim Samanta and produced by Shakti Samanta. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Raj Babbar, Sanjay Dutt, Jaya Prada, Rati Agnihotri, Madan Puri, Kader Khan, Pran, Ramesh Deo and Nirupa Roy.
