Manjhi, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a poor labourer living living in a small village in Bihar. His daily life was full of struggles and problems for which he did odd jobs to give a decent life to his wife Phaguniya, played by Radhika Apte and their son. Their village faced a tricky situationwhere a huge rocky mountain was in the way of reaching the closest medical care in Wazirganj.
To go to the other side, people had to walk for miles and hours or go climb it, which was very dangerous for cjildren and women. Phaguniya, who was pregnant with their second child, slipped from the mountain while trying to cross it and died giving birth to a baby girl. Manjhi was grief stricken hearing the horrific news and decided to make a road through that very mountain. He vowed to not rest till he made a pathway for himself and the villagers so that no one would ever die crossing it again.
After 22 years of heavy duty, strenuous labour, Manjhi finally did the unthinkable. He carved a path 360 feet long and 25 feet deep and 30 feet wide. His heroic act made him a hero in the village and the news spread all over the country. Unfortunately Manjhi died in 2007 without seeing the road the Indian government finally built in his village.
Manjhi-The Mountain Man is directed by Ketan Mehta and produced by Nina Lath Gupta and Deepa Sahi. The music is composed by Sandesh Shandilya and Hitesh Sonik.
