Raja Azad Singh (Dara Singh) rules over his people with fairness & honesty, his wife Rani Durga (Nirupa Roy) gives birth to their son so there are celebrations all around town. The British decide to take over the region. Durga and Azad are made prisoners, work as slaves. The son is adopted by Jamuna and her husband who are kind.
After many years, Durga has lost her voice though they are still slaves. Their son Raju (Amitabh Bachchan) rides a Tonga, his horse is named badal, has a loyal dog Moti too. Raju tries to woo a snobbish girl Ruby (Amrita Singh). The British find out about the truth behind Raju’s royalty, force the father and son in a battle. The end is who will survive and who comes together?
