Chamanlal is a wealthy man who lives with his only daughter Urmila. He wants to see her settled in a good family with a good man. After many tries to find her the perfect groom he finally resorts to putting an advertisement in the newspaper inviting proposals for prospective grooms. Anil Gupta happens to see the ad and is interested in Urmila he goes to meet her but is rejected by her for his western ways. Anil then hatches a plan to get his friend Ashok to marry Urmila and pretend to be abiding to Indian traditions and cultures. With some cajoling Ashok agrees and falls in love with Urmila and marries her. Anil however is jealous at Ashok’s luck and decides to take revenge on Urmila. In self defense , she ends up shooting Anil. She is then acquitted of the crime and unites with her husband Ashok. The film is directed by Subrato Banerji and produced by M P Shroff. The music is composed by Samir Ganguli. The star cast includes Mazhar Khan, Shashi Puri, Prema Narayan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhu Kapoor, Rabi Ghosh and Chand Usmani.
