Mohan Joshi and his wife are elderly and poor, thus they live in a rented apartment in Bombay. The roof of their apartment suddenly gives way one day and their repeated requests to the landlord Kundan for getting it fixed goes on deaf ears. They are also forbidden from doing it themselves. They thus gather the rest of the tenants and plan to refuse rent payment until the building is fixed and in living condition. The other tenants however are skeptical and back off one by one. Mohan and his wife are now left to fight this battle themselves and hire two well-known lawyers to build a case against their landlord. The case is dragged on for years but with no result and the lawyers mint good money from the old couple. Finally the judge then comes to Joshi’s apartment to see evidence of the faulty roof but Kundan gets his men to hold the roof in place to
look like everything is fine. Mohan Joshi however uses all his strength and pull the roof, thus making the building collapse on himself. The film is directed and produced by Saeed Akhtar Mirza. The music is composed by Vanraj Bhatia. The star cast includes Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval, Rohini Hattangadi, Bhisham, Sahni, Dina Pathak, Amjad Khan and Arvind Deshpande.
