Mom is a crime thriller movie directed by Rai Udayawar and Screen play is by Girish Kohli, starring Sridevi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles along with Akshaye Khanna in the supporting pivotal role. Music is by A.R. Rahman and the film was released on the 7th of July 2017. Produced by Randa Elamin, Sunil Manchanda, Mukesh Talreja , Naresh Agarwal and Gautam Jain.
Devaki ( Sridevi) is a Biology teacher. The story goes this way that Devaki wants to take revenge for the horrendous gang rape done on her step daughter (Sejal Ali) and later thrown on the side of the road.
The step daughter Arya has a strained relationship with her step mother but Devaki’s involvement to find the culprits and bring them to books helps the step daughter to heal and see her step mother in a different angle and light. The closeness develops between the mother and daughter in a subtle way. In the meantime, Devaki who does not get justice for the crime done by the boys takes into her hand to take her revenge on them. She discretely hires a very shady detective DK and gets the whereabouts of the boys who were involved in the gang rape and slowly starts killing each one of them in a very secretive and distinctive ways, due to which the police are not able to find the killer.
When the last of the culprits Jagan is alive and in a scuffle with Devki, is about to kill her the police inspector Mathew ( Nawazhuddin Siddiqui) hands over his gun to her asking her to kill him. Thus she takes revenge for the assault and rape conducted on her daughter Arya.
Arya overhears her step mother talking to the polilce that she took her revenge by killing the culprits of her daughter’s rape and she did it for her daughter. The mother daughter reunites at the end.
The film did exceptionally well and is considered as one of the highest grossing films for which Sridevi won two National Film Awards and the film received six nominations .
