The story of a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl who flee persecution in their town and establish a new life in Kolkata—living on the streets like many migrants—is told in Mon Potongo (Mind Flies). Despite being prohibited because of their social standing, they are enthralled by an opulent armchair at a showroom close to their settlement and want to sit on it together as king and queen someday. As housemaids and van pullers, they risk everything to accomplish this apparently unachievable objective, negotiating riches, power, and social extremes while confronting life's brutal realities.
Their love is put to the test as their desire pushes them to the limit against a backdrop of religious tension, social instability, and disinformation. Can they rise from the ashes like a phoenix, or will their dream destroy them? Mon Potongo, which is set in Kolkata, explores human desire from the perspective of the working class while fusing social realism with a story that seems like a fairy tale.
