Murli Prasad Sharma, aka Munna, played by Sanjay Dutt is a small time goon in Mumbai, but is compassionate and kind. His accomplice is Circuit, played by Arshad Warsi. They has a small gang that conducts robberies, kidnappings and threatens people. Murli’s parents one day come to visit him in Mumbai and inform him. They have no idea that Munna is a gangster but he has told them that he is a reputed doctor. So just before that arrive he changes his home into Sri Hari Prasad Charitable Hospital in his father’s name. When they arrive they are happy to see the hospital and the patients who are all pretending to be sick but are his gang members. One day his father meets his old acquaintance Dr. Asthana during his morning walk and they decide to get their his daughter married to his daughter Chinki, played by Gracy Singh who is also a doctor.
One day Dr. Asthana’s maid sees Munna’s picture and panic’s telling him how he is a goon. However Munna’s father has no idea and still thinks his son is a doctor and thus goes to Dr. Asthana’s house to ask his daughter’s hand in marriage. When they arrive he insults Munna and his father for asking his educated daughter’s hand for a goon like Munna. His father is shocked to hear this and leaves heartbroken. Munna swears revenge from Dr. Asthana by taking admission in the college he is the dean in. He then cheats in the entrance exam and gets the highest score. Dr. Asthana is shocked he got admission but is also horrified at his language and mannerisms.
Munna makes a place in the heart of all the students and staff of the hospital and medical college and thus when Dr. Asthana tries to rusticate him they resist. His daughter Chinki too falls in love with Munna. The movie is directed by Rajkumar Hirani And produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The music is composed by Anu Malik.
