Nikhil, played by Sanjay Suri, is an athletic boy who is a champion swimmer in Goa. He lives with his father Navin, played by Victor Banerjee, mother Anita, played by Lillete Dubey and sister Anamika, played by Juhi Chawla, who is a school teacher and loves her brother dearly. Nikhil, turns out is gay and in love with Nigel, played by Purab Kohli. One day when Nikhil goes for a routine checkup, he is horrified to learn that he is HIV positive. His beautiful and peaceful life comes to a standstill and crumbles right in front of his eyes. When his parents find out, they throw him out of the house and disown him. The government agencies keep him in an isolated facility, as per the Goan law to keep AIDS affected people away from the public.
Everyone gives up on Nikhil, but the only people who stand by his side no matter what is his sister Anamika, her boyfriend Sam and Nikhil’s boyfriend Nigel. They go to a top lawyer and are able to get Nikhil released from the facility. He struggles to find a job but later becomes a music teacher. Meanwhile Anamika and Nigel start an AIDS assistance organization called ‘People Positive’. As Nikhil’s condition gets worse his parents reconcile with him. After a few months Nikhil dies of AIDS and his parents now treat Nigel as their own son.
The movie is directed by Onir and produced by Sanjay Suri, Vickly Tejwani, Onir and Raj Kaushal. The music is composed by Viveck Philip.
