Namak Haram is a 1973 drama film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee starring Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Simi Garewal in the lead roles besides Asrani, Raza Murad, A. K. Hangal and Om Shivpuri in the supporting roles.
The story focuses on two friends Vicky (Amitabh Bachchan) and Somu (Rajesh Khanna). Vicky is one day insulted by the union leader of his factory. Somu is enraged and gets involved resulting in him joining as the union leader which brings about the differences between the two friends. The backdrop of this film is the Mumbai textile mills and its early inflation in the 1970’s which gave rise to the unions and how it has influenced the lives of the workers.
