Kusum is a beautiful girl but is now homeless due to unpaid debts. So she and he widower father have no place to go. Ramprasad an honest and helpful man comes to their rescue, as he also secretly in love with Kusum. He had helped his employer Bhavani Shankar in acquisition of one of his property after a long legal battle. So the former gives Ramprasad the responsibility of doing up the home. The latter takes this
opportunity to put Kusum and her father in that house illegally till he finds another accommodation, not letting Bhavani Shankar know about it.
When the estate manager come to know of this, he is furious and want to throw Kusum and her father out , but after meeting her he is captivated by her beauty and instead proposes marriage. Ramprasad now calls Bhavani’s younger brother Babua to deal with the situation. Turns out he too falls in love with Kusum. Meanwhile Bhavani Shankar learns of the illegal tenants and comes to take a look and is mesmerized by Kusum. He feels she is the reincarnation of his dead wife. He asks Ramprasad to arrange his wedding. Kusum is horrified. Ramprasad then decides to also invite Bhavani’s mother-in-law and daughter to the wedding without their knowledge. Seeing them he instead asks Ramprasad to marry Kusum and keep the whole matter a secret. The film is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and produced by Subhas Gupta. The music is composed by R D Burman. The star cast includes Amol Palekar, Swaroop, Uday Narayan, Shatrughan Sinha, Utpal Dutt, A K Hangal and Kiran Vairale.
