Naya Din Nai Raat is a 1974 drama film directed by Bhimsingh.
The film got very popular for an unusual story that reprised the nine role epic performance by Sanjeev Kumar. This film enhanced his status in the world of Hindi cinema. The nine characters that he plays correspond to the nine rasa. Namely Anand, Swami Rahasyanand, Mr. Sarang, Seth Dhanraj, Sher Singh, Fulunvar and few others.
A young woman named Sushma (Jaya Bhaduri) runs away from her home to avoid her marriage as she is in love with a boy named Anand (Sanjeev Kumar) and in her adventure she comes across nine men with different profession and different stories to narrate. The film is actually based on Sushma’s experience with different aspects of life when she comes through contact with the nine characters . Each character that is so stunningly and differently captured and leaves an impact on her mind. Sushma’s adventurous journey begins with the character of a wealthy widower, an alcoholic, a godman, a smuggler, a gregarious cop, an artist, a philanthropist suffering from leprosy and finally the prospective young man Anand, (Sanjeev Kumar) her father has chosen her to marry. The film ends with the other characters attending the wedding of Anand and Sushma with a happy ending.
