After his escape from the British at his house in Calcutta in 1941, Subhash Chandra Bose plans to enter Russia through the North West Frontier, with the help of Akbar Shah. He disguises himself as a tribesmen who is deaf and dumb. He crosses the border into Afghanistan via Kabul and then travels to Moscow with an Italian passport. From there he reaches Germany in a courier aircraft. There he forms the Free India Legion for the Indian prisoners of war. About 3,000 prisoners sign up for it.

Later when Hitler’s rule in Germany was making it tough for Bose to go ahead with his plan, he thinks of another route. He meets Hitler but is now convinced that he was not interested in military victories but rather propaganda ones. Bose then secretly left for Japan aboard a submarine. Bose later married Emilie Schenkl, daughter of an Austrain veterinarian and had a daughter Anita Bose Pfaff with her. After Japan was defeated in the battle of Kohima and Imphal, the Japanese army retreats and the INA is pulled back. Bose later leaves for Tourane and on 23rd August 1945, Reuters announces his death and the subsequent India’s independence in 1947.
